Birdwatching in Ventotene
Unspoiled nature
Quiet, wild and far from mass tourism, Ventotene is a true paradise for lovers of the sea, diving and excursions. After the hot summer months, however, the island is preparing to welcome a multitude of species of birds, large and small migratory birds, that cross the Mediterranean from Africa to northern Europe and vice versa. This route involves the island twice a year, in spring and autumn, making it the protagonist of one of the most beautiful shows that nature can offer us.
Bird migration
Ventotene is a privileged rest area during the migration routes of many species of birds. Up to now, birdwatchers from all over the world who have passed through here have counted more than 200 species of migratory birds. We recommend a walk along the path that leads to Cala di Pirata Grande, a small paradise not far from Punta Eolo, dominated by a promontory that becomes a refuge for many migratory birds. There you can admire seagulls, peregrine hawks, kestrels, as well as Cory's' shearwater and Mediterranean shearwater. In inhabited areas, on the other hand, barnacles, owls, godfinches, sparrows and scops owls are often encountered. Unmissable, then, is a visit to the Museum of Migration and Ornithological Observatory of Ventotene: a naturalistic museum where you can retrace the wonderful journey of migration of birds through dioramas and fiberglass models of numerous migratory species
